No, you do not have to purchase Foto Filer in order to use most of its features. Registering Foto Filer will provide enhanced capabilities not found in the un-registered version. Foto Filer does provide a complimentary 30 day trial period registration that provides full functionality to the user. Once the trial period expires, and Foto Filer remains unregistered, the un-registered restrictions are enforced.
Foto Filer can be downloaded and/or distributed by anyone, and to anyone. It can be copied onto any number of machines regardless of whether it has been registered or not. However, the registration serial number provided by Abbey Road Systems to a qualified registered user cannot, be shared and/or copied. If at some point it becomes desirable to remove Foto Filer from the PC, a special Un-install process is available. This process will remove all the program processes and documentation associated with Foto Filer. However, it DOES NOT remove any albums or photos that are on the PC, even if they were created using Foto Filer. Albums in Foto Filer are not the typical hardbound variety, but rather, electronic albums that are stored on a Personal Computer (PC). An album is a storage location where a single or group of photos can be saved and then assigned a name that makes sense to the user. For instance, an album can be called "Vacation in England" and can contain all the photos that apply your vacation in England. Albums can also contain other albums. For instance, an album called "Vacation 2008" can contain albums like "England" and "France".
Albums are actually Windows File Directories or Windows Folders, depending upon which version of windows is being used. These directories and folders are named and assigned certain properties that identify them as albums within Foto Filer. Because they retain all the attributes of a folder or directory within Windows, they can be copied to any Windows based device without the need to have Foto Filer operational on that device.
Starting with Release 1.1.4, New Release Notes are presented prior to the display of a Foto Filer screen that has additional capabilities added for a release. You have the option of turning the message off so it will not be displayed repeatedly. Since Release 1.1.5, you also have the option of turning off all reminders from within any of the individual reminder messages.
If you later decide that you want these messages displayed, they can be reset by double clicking the small photo on the "Select Folder" screen. However, this option is only available when you first start Foto Filer. Once you display the "Main Processing" screen, you will need to exit from Foto Filer to be able to initiate the reset operation. You can turn these messages on or off as often as you like.
